Thrift Scout (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Thrift Scout mobile and web application (the “App”), an AI-powered tool for identifying second-hand products and researching resale market prices. For any privacy questions, contact us at info@thrift-scout.com.
Data controller: [EDIT: your legal entity name], [EDIT: your physical address].
Account data: your email address and a display name when you create an account.
Photos: images you capture or upload to identify an item. These are sent to our AI identification provider and stored with your product record.
Location data: approximate geolocation (latitude/longitude) captured when you scan an item, used to map where you found items. Location is collected in the background only while using the App and is not shared publicly.
Scan results: the AI-generated identification, market price estimates, and notes you add to your products.
Payment data: credit-card and transaction data is handled entirely by our payment processor, Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number.
Usage data: device type, app interactions, and crash/log data used to improve the App.
The App requests the following device permissions. You can revoke any of them in your device settings; revoking will limit the corresponding features:
Camera: required to capture product photos for identification. The App accesses the camera only when you actively scan an item.
Location (GPS): used to tag where you found an item on your map. You may deny location access; scanning will still work without it.
Photo library: used only when you choose to upload an existing photo instead of taking a new one.
Notifications: used to notify you when a background scan completes. Optional.
We use your data to: identify items in your photos; research resale market prices; save your product library and map; process credit-pack purchases; provide support; and improve our AI accuracy and features. We do not sell your personal data.
To identify products and research prices, your photos and item details are sent to third-party AI providers. Market-price research queries public marketplace listings (such as eBay) and search engines. These providers process data under their own privacy and data-processing terms.
Credit-pack purchases are processed by Stripe. Stripe receives your payment details directly and is the controller of that payment data. We receive only a confirmation of the transaction and apply the purchased credits to your account. See Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
We keep your product library and account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual products at any time, or request full account deletion from your Profile (“Delete account”), which erases your data within 30 days.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email info@thrift-scout.com. We respond within 30 days.
The App is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own (including the EU and the US). Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
The App uses minimal local storage and analytics cookies necessary for functionality. We do not use advertising cookies.
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date above reflects the latest version. For any questions, contact info@thrift-scout.com.
